From court battles to copyright clashes, this week tested the limits of big tech’s dominance. In today’s MadTech Daily, we discuss Verve Group acquiring Captify, Meta Seeking AI content deals with media firms, and China dropping its Google antitrust case.
Amazon is expanding its programmatic integration with SiriusXM, adding programmatic guaranteed deals and private marketplace options for advertisers buying audio inventory.
But while Amazon builds out its ad stack, it has come under fire over its advertising practices. Both Amazon and Google are now under investigation over whether they misled advertisers on search ad pricing, an inquiry that lands just ahead of their separate federal antitrust trials set for September 22.
Google has been in other trouble too: Magnite has sued the tech giant, following an April 2025 ruling that found Google had engaged in exclusionary practices to protect its ad tech dominance.
Regulators are also zeroing in on children’s safety in the digital age. The FTC has ordered seven AI companies to explain how they assess chatbot risks for kids and teens, while France is reportedly considering its own probe into TikTok.
Similarly, Australia has issued fresh guidance on enforcing its under-16 social media ban. The eSafety Commissioner stressed that compliance should be kind, careful, and clear while placing the onus on platforms to find workable solutions.
And in publishing, Penske Media Corporation, has become the first major media company to sue Google over its AI Overviews, alleging that the feature unlawfully repurposes content to the detriment of publishers.
