US to demand Google break up its online advertising business (FT)
The US Department of Justice said it will seek to force Google parent Alphabet to sell key parts of its digital advertising business. The DOJ told a federal judge that divestments of Google’s ad exchange and publisher ad server businesses are the only way to break its dominance.
Mark Zuckerberg is planning a premium tier and ads for Meta’s AI app (The Verge)
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said there’s an opportunity to offer a “premium service for people who want to unlock more compute or additional functionality” in Meta AI. Currently, it’s unclear when ads, or a paid tier, might roll out.
Google Expands Access to Conversational AI in Search (Social Media Today)
Google is the latest to add a ChatGPT style interface to its Search. Named AI mode, it allows users to take a more conversational approach to web discovery interface that you can converse with. Google began testing its AI Mode with approved testers back in March, and it’s now expanding access to all Google Labs users in the US.
