This week's news:
Google fined by the EU and sued by PubMatic
News surrounding Google just keeps coming. Following the remedies of Google’s antitrust search case in the US being revealed last week, the European Commission (EC) announced it would be fining the tech giant €2.95bn (£2.55bn) over its abusive practices in ad tech. The EC’s press release stated that it had ordered Google to bring its self-preferencing practices to an end, and to implement measures to cease its inherent conflicts of interest across the ad tech supply chain. It has given Google 60 days to inform the commission about how it intends to comply with these requirements.
Now this week, ad tech company PubMatic has sued Google over its digital advertising monopoly. The lawsuit has been filed in federal court in Virginia. PubMatic is seeking billions of dollars over its claim that Google illegally monopolised the sector. The lawsuit is the second to be brought forward by an advertising exchange.
