Who’s suing AI and who’s signing: Getty signs with Perplexity, Penske Media sues Google over AI Overviews (Press Gazette

Many publishers have sued AI giants over using their copyrighted content without permission. Cases include The New York Times vs OpenAI and Microsoft, Penske vs Google, News Corp vs Perplexity, among many others . 

Meanwhile, many publishers have opted to sign deals instead, such as People Inc and Microsoft, or Conde Nast and Amazon. Several have made deals with OpenAI, including The Guardian, Reuters, and the FT.

Reddit says its goal is to make the platform a go-to place for the distribution and discussion of real, human perspectives surrounding the latest headlines.The platform launched Pro Tools for Publishers in September. According to a Reddit spokesperson, publishers must shift from a self-promotional mindset to a community-first approach if they want success on the platform. 

Reddit’s referral traffic to newsbrands was up 220% from six million at the start of 2019 to over 19 million in July 2025. The platform has also seen its monthly UK audience rise 27% year on year since May 2025. 

Amazon and Perplexity have kicked off the great AI web browser fight (The Verge

Amazon has sent Perplexity an aggressive legal threat demanding it stop allowing its AI assistant to shop for users. This follows Amazon having “repeatedly requested” that Perplexity stop its Comet AI browser buying products for customers. Comet offers an agentic AI feature that can find and purchase products from a range of websites, including Amazon, on users’ behalf. 

Amazon claims Comet AI provides its customers with a degraded shopping and customer service experience, while Perplexity claims this request is at odds with Amazon’s values.
