Today [9 December] ExchangeWire announced the winners of its second annual awards programme, The Wires, for the APAC region. Since launching The Wires APAC it has been an honour to be able to reward the best work and industry innovation coming out of the region, and 2020 has been no different. While the global situation has meant announcing this year’s awards virtually, ExchangeWire is no less thrilled to be able to reward everyone’s achievements.

Ciaran O’Kane, CEO, ExchangeWire announcing the winner of The Wires APAC 2020 Grand Prix

While we were not able to celebrate with everyone in person, this year we were able to do things a little differently, and hear from some of our expert judges about what it was like to judge The Wires APAC 2020, and why they felt the winning entries were deserving of the award. We also got to hear directly from our winners about what winning the award meant for them.

Magnite scooped the top award of the night, the Grand Prix, for their ‘Demand Manager’ entry, which won the ‘Best New Product or Service: Sell Side’ category. Shien Zhu, Magnite’s country manager for Japan, accepted the award, noting the importance of the support from the team, their clients, and the wider community, with Juliette Stead, SVP, head of JAPAC, reiterating that when she accepted the Grand Prix award. The judges believed the entry shows a great initiative, based on solid open source principles, and it clearly articulated the need for the product and the key benefits to publishers.

Triton Digital took the award for ‘Best New Product or Service: Buy Side’ for its work with Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) on the Australian Podcast Ranker. CRA CEO Joan Warner said in her acceptance video that the trade body’s work with Triton Digital has helped its members and other publishers to monetise because its brought greater buyer transparency to the podcast industry in Australia.

AdColony won the award for ‘Best Digital Campaign’ for its work with Mindshare and Unilever for Indonesian tea brand Sariwangi. Peeyush Shekhar, client lead for Mindshare Unilever at Mindshare Indonesia, highlighted the campaign’s ability to cross multiple media touch points. The judges felt it was innovative, creative, and a strategic, nuanced use of programmatic.

The award for ‘Best Mobile Campaign’ went to S4M for its work with Nando’s, with APAC managing director James Rogers accepting the award. The judges thought this entry stood out for its great use of technology, very impressive results, and its smart incremental uplift measurement methodology to verify media performance with actual in store footfall.

‘Best Marketing Technology Solution’ was picked up by Impact for its partnership automation platform, Impact Partnership Cloud, which the judges thought was an important niche and a solid example of an innovative product designed to organise and automate the lifecycle of marketer partnerships.

‘Best Ad Ops Team’ went to SpotX’s Magnificent Seven, with Tasha Kaur, operations director Asia accepting the award and reminding everyone that, while ad ops teams normally stay out of the limelight, they are the true backbone of any commercial team. The judges liked how the entry showed the team to have gone above and beyond to grow programmatic adoption through technology and education.

PubMatic’s APAC customer success team won the award for ‘Best Client Services Team’, with PubMatic’s APAC director of customer success, Tina Tsang, thanking her team for always continuing to set the bar high; something reiterated by the judges’ feedback.

ExchangeWire were also delighted to bring back Ad Tech Personality of the Year and Ad Tech Rising Star, specifically for the APAC region, this year. It was fantastic to see such strong nominations, showing the talent both leading the region’s digital industry, as well as demonstrating its bright future. We received over 1,000 votes for both categories.

Regine Hoe, senior digital specialist at PHD Media, who was nominated because of the growth she has achieved during her short time in the industry, has been crowned APAC Ad Tech Rising Star 2020.

The winner of APAC Ad Tech Personality of the Year 2020 is Sunil Naryani, VP commercials and partnerships APAC, Dentsu Aegis Network. A well-known face in the industry, who appeared on stage at ATS Singapore 2019, discussing the hot topic of identity, Naryani was nominated because his passion for all things programmatic and relentless effort to exceed business targets have led to significant growth in regional programmatic revenue for Dentsu Aegis.

ExchangeWire would like to thank everyone, including the brilliant panel of judges, and all of the applicants, nominators, nominees and votes, and of course, huge congratulations to all of this year’s winners. We look forward to celebrating with you in person in Singapore in 2021.
