Thrad's Inaugural Sponsored Intelligence Summit Sets the Terms for the Answer Economy

Thrad has published the takeaways from its inaugural Sponsored Intelligence Summit, an invitation-only programme which brought brand marketers, agency, and AI publishers together around a single proposition: that AI is not search, and that the answer, not a page of links, is now the first thing a customer sees.
Opening with a keynote titled The Answer Economy: AI Is the New Front Door, Andrea F. Tortella, CEO and co-founder of Thrad, framed advertising not as a tax on AI but as the mechanism that pays for it. "Sponsored intelligence enables us to subsidise AI, to democratise it, to make it cheaper and more accessible." The programme that followed was built to test that claim rather than to assert it.
The first test came in Performance in the Conversation: The New Funnel, from Matt O'Neill, founder of Teemo and co-founder of AdMonsters. "AI is flattening the world the same way that Google flattened the world," he argued, and media planning is next. The publishers poised to win share three qualities, critical mass, a definable niche, and first-party data packaged so that agents can read it, and become lightning rods for agentic buyers. What the market still lacks is the marketplace to connect the two sides, which is precisely why injecting directly into the conversation, as Thrad does, bypasses the gap entirely.
The second test was control. In Sounding Like You at Scale, Giuseppe Battista, senior solutions architect for startups at AWS, took aim at AI slop, the mass-produced content that dilutes a brand's voice until it becomes interchangeable. His answer, demonstrated live, is to treat voice as something extracted rather than written: crawl what a brand has published, distill it into a style guide, and load it as context every time the model speaks, so the model's predictions are skewed towards sounding like you.
The flagship panel, From Search to Ask: The New Front Door to Your Brand, turned to publishing itself. Mimmo Palmieri, founder of MIMMS and formerly of the Financial Times and Condé Nast, described an industry navigating a shift arriving faster than anyone can absorb: publishers still create the content, but AI increasingly owns its distribution, pushing them to become media brands that pull audiences rather than push formats. Kim Tarantino of Transact Media Group added the demand-side counterweight, that attribution remains the sticking point while no measurement model speaks across every kind of media buying. Tortella closed with the commercial logic: net new supply, relatively few buyers, and therefore an arbitrage favouring whoever moves first.
Thrad then put its own answer on stage "From Brief to Live in Seconds", a demo by Thrad's Zizou and Aleksei in which Claude, connected to Thrad's MCP, planned and launched a real campaign from a single conversational brief.
The closing session, Placing the First Bets: The Twelve-Month AI Playbook, moderated by Thrad chief of staff Alexandra Naomi Perez, turned it all into a budget question. Kevin Baragona, founder and CEO of DeepAI, described how the format behaves inside an AI product: much like search advertising, appearing at just the right moment in conversations carrying commercial intent, and converting across virtually every category. The advertiser's proof came from Thoughtworks, where Karen Dumville, global VP of go-to-market intelligence and activation, and Hiral Shah, global head of social media, committed a significant portion of paid media budget to AI experimentation, first researching how buyers actually phrase their problems inside AI conversations.
"As we enter this generative internet, we are thinking about generative advertising, about liquid ad formats," Tortella said in closing. "How can we weave ads into the conversation to complement the user's experience, making them more user-friendly and more privacy-friendly, so they never disrupt what the person came to do."
