Netflix, Waitrose Join ASA awareness campaign
A new eight-week burst of the Advertising Standards Authority's public awareness campaign has launched across TV, digital, out-of-home, radio, cinema, press and magazines, backed by an expanded roster of media partners and increased donations from existing supporters, with Netflix and Waitrose donating inventory. The campaign, a central pillar of the Advertising Association's ongoing effort to build public trust in advertising, features returning brand partners Churchill, Compare the Market, Marmite, and Tesco lending their well-known straplines to creative work from agency Leith, with media planning handled by WPP Media's EssenceMediacom.
The push comes as the ASA highlights its recent enforcement work, having resolved more than 40,000 complaints against 25,397 ads in 2025, resulting in 22,383 ads being amended or removed, while its AI-powered Active Ad Monitoring system screened 60 million ads to help proactively flag issues in high-priority areas.
TikTok settles children’s privacy case for $400m
TikTok has agreed to pay USD$400m (£296m) to resolve federal charges that it violated children's privacy law by collecting personal data from users under 13, the Department of Justice announced. The settlement closes out a complaint the DOJ filed in August 2024, when the app, then owned by China's ByteDance, was accused of letting children 12 and under sidestep a "Kids Mode" setting meant to limit data collection.
That complaint had also alleged TikTok failed to uphold a 2019 settlement with the Federal Trade Commission tied to potential violations of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, a law that bars websites and apps from knowingly collecting personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
Taptap digital acquires Skyrise to expand in Europe
Taptap Digital has acquired Skyrise, a move both companies describe as a significant step in Taptap's European growth strategy. The deal combines Skyrise's privacy-first audience design capabilities, built on high-quality, deterministic data and proprietary modeling, with Taptap's AI-powered location intelligence infrastructure, creating a combined platform that lets advertisers identify, activate, and measure audiences without relying on cookies or personal identifiers.
Skyrise will continue operating under its own brand within Taptap Digital, maintaining continuity for clients and delivery teams, with CEO Paul Barnard staying on alongside the existing management team. Skyrise's audiences will remain accessible through its existing network of DSP, SSP, and media owner partners while also gaining new distribution channels through Taptap.
