Meta lobbied Irish authorities over EU-US transfers

Facebook-parent Meta has reportedly lobbied Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Tánaiste Micheál Martin and Minister for Enterprise Simon Coveney over the transfer of EU users’ data to the US. The firm said it was “seeking Ireland’s support for resolution of EU-US data transfer issues”. The move comes as reports have emerged that NHS trusts are sharing sensitive information about patients’ medical conditions and treatments with Facebook without their consent.

The platform drew over 32 million viewers to the finale of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament, overtaking the previous record-holder, Disney’s Hotstar.
